LIFE ELEKTRA Presents Its Circular Water Treatment Approach At IWA World Water Congress 2026

LIFE ELEKTRA is represented at the IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition 2026 in Glasgow, where Miguel Capilla from AVSA has presented the project’s poster to an international audience of water professionals.

The IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition 2026, taking place in Glasgow from 4 to 8 October, brings together researchers, decision-makers, utilities, industry representatives and innovators from across the global water sector. The 2026 edition is centred on the theme “Water action – the path to resilience and prosperity” and features an extensive programme of technical presentations, workshops, posters, technology showcases and discussions on emerging water challenges.

Against this international backdrop, LIFE ELEKTRA is represented by Miguel Capilla from AVSA, who has presented the project’s poster during the congress. The presentation provides an opportunity to introduce LIFE ELEKTRA’s approach to an international water audience and to exchange knowledge with professionals working on innovative treatment technologies and sustainable water management.

LIFE ELEKTRA addresses nitrate pollution through an integrated approach based on electrochemical denitrification, aiming to transform nitrate into nitrogen gas while also generating hydrogen and exploring the recovery of valuable resources from concentrated water streams. The project combines these elements with renewable energy integration and a circular approach to water treatment.

The project’s participation in the Glasgow congress continues LIFE ELEKTRA’s commitment to communicating its research and demonstration activities beyond the project consortium. Sharing its work through international scientific and sectoral events helps foster dialogue around solutions that can simultaneously address water quality, resource efficiency and the water-energy nexus.
