The LIFE ELEKTRA project took part in the 2nd IWA Young Water Professionals European Conference 2026, held from 14th to 17th June 2026 at Politecnico di Milano in Italy. The conference brought together more than 250 young and senior water professionals from across Europe and beyond, creating a strong platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration and innovation in the water sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Representing the project, Jaume Cotol\u00ed Sancho of Global Omnium presented the talk “Circular economy applied to nitrate removal in drinking water processes: brine mining and hydrogen production”, a clear example of how LIFE ELEKTRA turns a water-quality challenge into an opportunity for resource recovery and clean energy generation. The presentation reflected the project\u2019s broader ambition: to close the loop in drinking-water treatment by removing nitrates, recovering valuable by-products and supporting a more circular approach to the water-energy nexus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
YWPEU 2026 was designed as a lively meeting point for the next generation of water professionals, with a programme that included keynotes, panel discussions, oral and pitch sessions, workshops, poster sessions, networking activities, and technical tours. This format made the conference an especially relevant space for LIFE ELEKTRA, whose approach combines scientific development, pilot demonstration and practical implementation in real water systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For LIFE ELEKTRA, the event was also an opportunity to connect with a community that is shaping the future of the sector.
